English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

In 2003, NALA developed a set of ESOL policy guidelines with key stakeholders from the Department of Education and Science, the VEC and other community education providers. Its core aim was to support ESOL provision in the VEC Adult Literacy Schemes, however it has relevance to ESOL provision in any setting.
The landscape has changed considerably since 2003 and the need for literacy to be further integrated into all language provision is even more pressing.
Accordingly, NALA continues to provide supports to ESOL practitioners working in the adult literacy service and other adult education and work based settings with a particular emphasis on supporting 'ESOL Literacy' provision and practice.
