The Really Useful Guide to Words and Numbers is a Distance Learning project co-ordinated by the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA).
Topics covered in the TV programmes are interesting and unusual, appealling to a wide audience. The series covers themes as diverse as buying and booking on-line, attending parent-teacher evenings, DIY, placing a bet, digital music, finding a job and underwater photography!
Each programme in the series:
- helps adults improve their reading, writing, spelling and numbers;
- focuses on various everyday activities, with candid tips and advice;
- hears students, tell how returning to learning improved their lives; and
- introduces guest speakers to discuss topical issues.
Workbooks and games for people who want to improve their literacy skills are also available on the website.
