February - March - April 2012
If you have been using the site and have specific questions, this would be a good opportunity to have those addressed.
NALA will be running more free training sessions on www.writeon.ie in the coming months. There will be very little new in these sessions compared to what you have seen before. However, we will be outlining our plans for Level 4 learning and explaining some of the recent and upcoming changes that we are implementing based on your feedback and usability testing. If you have been using the site and have specific questions, this would be a good opportunity to have those addressed. I can also arrange for some time before or after each scheduled session if you would like to discuss issues one to one. You can contact me directly at the contact details below if you wish to arrange or discuss this.

www.writeon.ie has been running since September 2008 offering learning and accreditation options at Levels 2 and 3 on the National Framework of Qualifications for Ireland. As of today, there are 19,410 learning accounts on the site. To date 1,062 learners have now achieved 4,779 minor awards and 443 major awards at Level 2, while 255 learners have now achieved 754 minor awards and 58 major awards at Level 3. So far, over 60 different learning centres from across the country have used the site to provide accreditation options to their learners and we know of at least another 40 centres who are using the site in one capacity or another.

As a result of an increased number of calls from practitioners to our Freephone number (1800 20 20 65) enquiring about the site, we have decided to organise some new training sessions and are trying to gauge where the demand is so we can plan accordingly. Ideally, we would like to hold 4 or 5 sessions in different regions of the country in February, March and April 2012.

These 3 hour training sessions are free and you will be provided with hand outs on the day. Presentations and other documents can be forwarded by email afterwards. These events are designed to introduce tutors, organisers and other practitioners to the structure and content of the site and deal with frequently asked questions arising. The event is a hands on session, so depending on numbers, attendees will be given the chance to interact with the site and NALA’s Distance Learning team will answer any queries you might have. To get the most out of the site, we recommend you log onto the site before attending, get a new password and try out the assessment, learning and portfolio activities available.

If you are interested in attending training, please let me know by emailing tomara@nala.ie. I will collate the replies and come up with a training plan to accommodate as many people as possible. If you are a VEC-based tutor, please ensure you discuss your interest with your Adult Literacy Organiser before replying to this mail. Due to budget restrictions, we are particularly interested in hearing from you if you would be willing to host one of these regional training sessions in an IT room in your centre.

We look forward to seeing you at one of the training sessions and to working with you in the near future on this exciting new flexible approach to literacy provision.

If you have any queries on this matter, you can call us on Freephone 1800 20 20 65.
