Watch out for ‘Written off?’ on RTE

While all the 11 participants come from different parts of the country, very different backgrounds and range in age from 17 to mid-50’s, they soon discover that their experiences are more similar than they first expected – they all have difficulties with reading and writing. This television series, lets them tell their own stories in their own words, and also covers all the highs, lows and brilliant moments of comedy as they form bonds and become friends and support to each other over 8 weeks.
‘Written-off?’ is a joint project between RTÉ and the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) with support from the BCI Sound & Vision fund. It will be broadcast on RTÉ One Television on Sunday mornings at 8.45am from the 18 July.
‘Written Off?’ promises to keep us entertained as well as helping us to be more aware of the challenges experienced by those with literacy difficulties. In episode one, we meet a family woman from Killarney, who suffers from panic attacks. This, combined with her literacy issues, means she feels completely dependent on other people for security. Then there’s Paul, who was bullied as a school kid, fell out with his father and ended up on the streets and into drugs at a young age. Now, he wants to turn his life around, and being able to read and write is very important to him.
Don't miss it!
