Staff training – custom made seminars and workshops on integrating literacy in education and training

Here are examples of seminars and workshops that NALA has provided to a range of education and training organisations:
- A seminar for Boards of Management and senior management teams. It aims to assist management to develop a whole-organisation policy to integrate literacy into the organisation’s education and training provision and to begin the process of strategic planning.
- A whole-centre review and planning workshop: Using the framework provided by the Integrating Literacy Guidelines, this workshop focuses on producing the key elements of a realistic strategic plan to phase in the integrated approach.
- Methods and materials for integrating literacy into education and training courses. This is an introduction to what ‘integrating literacy’ means in practice for teachers and trainers. It includes an introduction to practical approaches staff can use in their own particular course or role. (Please note that staff should bring copies of course materials they currently use – for example, core module descriptors, handouts, assignments).

A session focusing on any one of the following:
- Integrating Writing and Spelling
- Integrating Reading
- Integrating Numeracy
- Integrating Language development
- for speakers of English as a first language
- for speakers of English as a second or other language
- Literacy and assessment: an introduction to the concept and practice of integrated assessment
Seminar Cost: The cost of a full day’s training is €900 for large organisations and state agencies and €710 for community and voluntary sector organisations. Half day prices are available also.
