Student development work

Our work is strengthened by the involvement of adult literacy students. To increase the effectiveness of students' input we develop ways of better hearing and understanding them. These ways include:
1. Student involvement in our Executive Committee
We have student members on our Executive Committee. Our current Chairperson is a student. All members receive training on being a member of a national executive.
2. Student Sub-committee
Our student sub-committee plays a central role in planning our student events and ensuring we hear student views.
3. Student Development Fund
We provide funding for learners' development, known as learner subsidies. Through this fund we gather feedback which influences our work.
4. Annual Student Days
Each year we provide two student days, one in Dublin and one in a region with themes suggested by students.
5. Once off events for students
Examples of these events include :2008 National Student Day on Dyslexia, 2006 “Working within Groups”, 2006 NALA celebrations of International Literacy Day focus on students, Writer weekends (2006 and 2005)
