Health literacy

This is the project report of NALA’s latest health literacy work.  It involved conducting a literacy audit in four Irish health settings and two focus groups in 2010. The quotes from these focus groups are very interesting and put a human face to this area.  A number of recommendations are made and NALA hopes to publicise this report in 2011 to make health setting aware of literacy and how they can address this issue in a practical way.   This project was funded by a grant from MSD.

Clocking In to Clocking Out is a resource pack for tutors delivering workplace basic education programmes. The pack has been designed to help tutors meet the reading, writing, communications, numeracy and ICT needs of learners in the context of workplace basic education demands.

This health literacy research report from 2002 marked the first time literacy had significantly entered the health debate in Ireland.

These health worksheets are designed to be used in adult basic education centres. They cover a wide variety of topics such as common ailments, aspects of good mental health and information that might be useful for older people or their relatives and carers. Each worksheet contains a reading text for information, a comprehension exercise and a word puzzle with answers provided.
