Literacy Matters - keeping you up to date with literacy news in Ireland and informing you of the work NALA is doing.

This is the first edition of NALA's new bi-annual magazine. It aims to keep you up to date with literacy news in Ireland and informing you of our work. In this issue we have articles on our new advertising campaign funded by An Post; a planned family literacy day, one student's journey about her literacy journey and much more.

This edition contains news for tutors. It's lead stories are on Mapping the Learning Journey, the assessment framework for adult basic education, family literacy and the launch of another our TV literacy services.

The lead article in this newsletter relates to the power of the internet for literacy learning and tuition. Other articles include those on the launch of our numeracy strategy, regional fora and dyslexia conference and much more besides.

The lead articles in this edition are, 'TV series helps break down barriers', 'Low levels of literacy obstruct justice', 'Making literacy family-friendly' and 'Dealing with specific learning difficulties'. This edition also had a special pull-out on NALA's assessment framework.

The lead articles in this edition related to, Health Literacy Project, Models of Family Litearcy Seminar and news from around Ireland. Other topics covered included International Literacy Day, the Quality Framework for Adult Basic Education, the NALA/WIT National Certificate for Literacy tutors and much more.

The main articles in this four-page newsletter relate to Mr. Ernie Sweeney's, one of our Executive, success in campaigning for the inclusion of pictures and party logos to be used on ballot papers, the opening of our first regional office and a short description of the NALA/NUI Maynooth Certificate - Integrating Literacy.
